Press release by the IKKF

IIIIIIIII Date: 27.02.01

Many national and international media have reported that on the 25th of February 2001, a German national was caught with a knife entering the complex wherein Ugyen Thinlay Dorje, the Chinese nominated Karmapa was housed.

We condemn such act by any individual and would like to request the Central government of India to probe into the matter and direct the concerned department to carry out the necessary inquiries extensively as to who the individual is and if he meant harm to Ugyen Thinlay. If indeed he meant to harm the boy, then what was the cause of motivation and the people responsible if any.

This (the investigation), we feel should be carried out in order avoid any form of misunderstanding and false accusations. The investigation should also probe into finding if the individual is mentally stable or not and also not overlook the possibility of a stage act.

Karma Wangchuk
Secretary, IKKF (New Delhi)
